2003
Racing Program
Texoma Sailing Club will again hold its "traditional" club
race series
this year, starting with the Icebreaker on February 22. All full members
of TSC are invited to participate.
In addition, we will hold three open events; Lakefest on April 11-13,
the Texoma Cup Classic on May 24, and the Wunderlick Classic on August
30. There will also be some informal "cruise to the beach" races
in the
summer, with details to be announced at the appropriate time.
The format and rules for the club series races are very similar to last
year. There are no major changes in the ISAF and US Sailing Racing Rules
of Sailing. Full details will be available at the skippers' meeting in
the form of official Sailing Instructions.
One significant change we are planning is the addition of a second
cruising sails fleet. This fleet is intended to give newer skippers or
infrequent racers a better opportunity to race among boats with similar
competitive characteristics.
We have not quite decided what to call this fleet, but it is expected
to
include novice racers, returning former racers, infrequent racers and
so
on. It may also be considered suitable for some "classic" boats
or
smaller boats. We already have a Red fleet and a Yellow fleet, so the
new fleet will likely be known as the Green fleet.
We will base the assignment to this fleet on PHRF rating, wishes of the
skipper, and judgement of the TSC race committee. The entire concept
depends on the level of interest from the TSC membership, so let us know
what you think. And come on out to join the racing.
I will send out more details about the Icebreaker series, including
entry forms, in a couple of weeks. At the same time I plan to announce
the Race Committee assignments for the year.
The Race Officer (Race Committee) for each race day is selected from
the
known racers in the club. We try to spread the duties around in a fair
manner, so not every racer will be called upon every year. However, I
will plan to select everyone who won a trophy in 2002.
At this time I would like to ask for any volunteers who want to select
specific dates to serve in the Race Committee function. Please send me
any dates you would like to select or any dates to specifically avoid.
Once the roster is set and agreed it is expected that the assignees will
follow through, without further rescheduling.

Finally, I will mention a special event hosted by the Grapevine Sailing
Club. GSC will host North Sails University seminars on February 22 and
23. Performance Racing Trim is on Saturday, and Cruising and Seamanship
is on Sunday.
These seminars are typically held on the east coast or west coast, and
I
have not personally attended either of these seminars. However, I have
read over the textbooks, and they are very good.
