| Dear Fellow Sailors:
This is just a short note to introduce your new officers and other
members of the board of Texoma Sailing Club, announce the 2003 dues,
and remind you of some upcoming events.
First of all, let me introduce the 2003 board:
Gary Witt – Commodore and immediate past
Pete Nitsche - Vice-Commodore
Betty Knight - Treasurer and Clubhouse Manager
Mary Nichols - Secretary
Gene Fuller - Race Captain
Gayle Witt - past and past Commodore
Phil Smith - past, past, past Commodore
Social Committee - Jim and Margie Braswell and Phil and Betsy Keown
Youth Sailing - Open
Your board has already met to develop a budget, set the dues, and
plan the calendar for 2003. The latter is enclosed so you can find
an early empty spot on your refrigerator. We have decided to make
the Mainsheet an electronic publication this year. It will still
be quarterly, March, June, end of August, so make sure we have your
e-mail address up to date. A copy of your data record is included,
if it is not right, make sure your dues invoice is updated with
the correct data before you send it in to Betty. There is no charge
for us to use the internet, so we'll save at least $40 a mailing
this year. We will continue to use post cards and e-mails to bring
attention to other special events, and if you don’t have an
e-mail address, you will get a paper copy.
Based on the projected membership for 2003 and the funds needed
to meet our operating expenses, we will be able to keep the dues
the same as last year, $300 for full members and $120 for associate
members. The board did authorize a discount rate of $250 for full
and $100 for associate for new and renewing members whose dues are
received (postmarked) by January 31, 2003.
There is still an opening for youth sailing. I’m still appealing
for someone to step forward to lead a program. Please contact me
to volunteer!!! We can start very simply and build a program as
interest develops. This program will become what you all make it.
Just a few notices for your calendar: The Commodore's Party is
planned for January 18th. A social time will be held at the Texoma
Sailing Clubhouse beginning at 17:30; dinner will follow at the
Denison Country Club at 19:00. The menu consists of roast beef,
au jus, baked chicken, potatoes au gratin, vegetable medley, three
different salads, and chocolate cake. The cost for all this fun
is only $20 per person; there will be a cash bar at the Country
Club. Eddie Self will have everyone dancing with his wonderful CD
collection! Mary will be sending another reminder with reservation
details.
TSC is hosting a Race Management Seminar, taught by USSailing Instructors,
on February 1. The cost is $30 per person which includes lunch.
There is a limit to the number of attendees, so please log onto
http://ussailing.org/racemgt/Race_Officer_Prog/ for more information
and about enrolling. Gene Fuller will be sending more details also.
Lakefest is planned for April 11, 12, and 13. I'm sure we will
have all the weather varieties that appeal to so many sailors again
this year and I know that you will all step up to help make this
major charity event seem effortless to put on!!!!
I look forward to another fun year! Be sure you take advantage
of some of the summer events, especially those with more family
focus.
